Remember the Nike commercial right after the 2004 World Series? Remember that it made you cry?
Yeah. I bet you do.
So be prepared to weep again...
This is why we love the games, folks.
Thanks, Red.
Talk about a genuine reaction. The Celtic NBA Championship ranks 2nd on my list off all time great Boston sports moments. (#1 2004 WS). This is why I love sports.
It's 10:03 pm right now. I'm sitting on my couch, in semi-darkness with my lap top sitting appropriately on my lap. Shaun is downstairs, in the basement/playroom watching the Celtics. I am afraid. I am afraid of him. The Celtics could win the NBA Championship tonight. I believe it's been something like 22-years since the last one. Names like Byrd and McEnroe come to mind. Wait..maybe it's McHale? Oh well...my feeble mind digresses....
"YEAH!! BAM!! BOOM!! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!!!"
Back to why I am afraid.
Shaun gets CRAZY when his beloved New England sports teams are in positions to win Championships. Crazy. CAH. RAY. ZEE. I lived through some great sports highs with him: three Super Bowl wins and two Red Sox World Series championships, and I've lived through some lows with him: the 2003 Let's-Leave-Pedro-In heartbreak and the recent, and still painful, Super Bowl loss after an undefeated season.
"WAA HAA OOOO!! YOUR KIDDING ME??!!!"
And never mind watching these types of games with him. He paces, he sweats, he mumbles, he drools, if they start to lose he switches positions/changes his hat/makes me change positions or my hat - you get the drift. His anxiety stresses me out - I bite my fingernails down to the bone, my heart races, I get hot flashes and I try to leave but can't lest I break the "sports mojo." It's hard being married to the man. I've tried to calmly tell him it's only a game only to be told, "Wendy, I've watched the (blank New England sports team) since I was in my Underoos. I've watched every (blank New England sports team) game, even when they sucked and they couldn't give away tickets. It's more than 'just a game' to me." Fair enough.
"OH GET OUT OF HERE - GET THAT SH*T OUT HERE. BOOM!" (The BOOM was followed by a quick hand clap). "SCORE ONE MORE. KG, GET THAT B*TCH! WOOOOOO!
He just came upstairs and told me that the Celts are up by 23 (or was it 24?) - that was followed by some serious pacing followed by his questioning of what he was going to do with himself for the next 15 minutes. I politely gave him a, "That's good dear" without really looking up from my computer. I could see the pacing in my peripheral vision. At least he's consistent. I should probably sew some swiffers onto the bottom of his socks. Might as well clean my floors while he paces.
So I send out this prayer before signing off:
God, if you are up there in that big blue sky, could you please let the Celtics win tonight? I can't live through a game 7, and neither can my husband.
*These are the screams I heard from him while I was typing this...
And yes, that is Shaun in a cupcake.
You probably already read what happened on Erin's birthday on T5MS Blog Since the story has been told I figured I would fill in the details.
Here is how it started. Erin posted a simple "Tweet" on June 11th.
Within 3 seconds of reading it I knew what had to be done. The quest for the weirdest singing telegram began. The first call I made was the "Showstopper". I didn't have to look any further than "Four Fun Singing Telegrams" (why "Four" and not "For"?? I digress). I discussed the "plan" with the gentleman from 4 Fun. He started to roll off his list of potential costumes. Elmo, Winnie the Pooh, Pink Gorilla "STOP" I said. My search was over.
At the end of the conversation I asked the gentleman his name. "Ripley...BELIEVE IT OR NOT!" he shouted VERY gleefully. The plan was set.
The plan went off without a hitch. Click CONTINUE READING below for the glorious videos!
And in Erin's own words:
Today is Erin's 38th birthday!! Wait...no, that's not right. Let's see (counting on fingers)..I think she's 37? No no no she's 36!! Thirty-six years she's been on this planet, and she looks marvelous! Erin's not only my sister-in-law, but she's also my SPiC. That's my Shopping Partner in Crime. We don't actually commit any crime, unless you call me putting odd things in her shopping cart when she isn't looking (think hemorrhoid cremes and small leopard-spotted speedos), or pretending our shopping carts are the motorcycles from CHiPs (I'm Ponch and she's John), or me asking what types of condoms she uses while a nervous looking man next to me peruses the tampon section for his lady. Ahhh...fun times for sure. Immature? Yes! Will we ever "grow up" - No! Our bodies may wrinkle, our boobs may sag, our hair may gray and our memory will fade - but grow up? Never!
So Happy Birthday my very young friend!!
-Vicky
P.S. Back in the day, I called Erin Rhonda and she called me Vicky.
He's normally very cute....
Two recent "Will-isms"
Shaun was wearing this hideous Hawaiian shirt the other day (clean clothes were obviously low), and when Will saw it he goes, "I like your bamboo shirt."
Will recently had his head "buzzed" for summer. He said to me shortly after the cut, "I'm balb like an old man." I believe he meant to say, "bald."

Happy Four Months little guy! You were introduced to rice cereal and some carrots this week (you didn't quite know what to do with the new experience). You are giggly and talkative, and you've finally (at least I think) found your hands. I noticed your thumb in your mouth today for a few seconds...could we have another thumb sucker on our hands? No rolling from you yet, but you are definitely pushing yourself up when on your belly. You are getting cuter by the day!
Love,
Mommy
*You weigh 13lb 13 oz and are 25 1/2" long
I took Will to Dairy Queen the other day and, while waiting our turn, a woman opened the door and yelled to someone in line behind us. As most humans do, Will and I turned to see who was doing the yelling. It happened to be a "little person." When we got into the car with our creamy delights, Will said to me, "That lady was little." I had wondered if he would make a comment about her short stature. I said, "Yes, she is a little person."
After a few seconds, Will said, "She's like a mix up. She's little and she's big."

After months of planning we finally had Mom's surprise 60th birthday party last light. The event was held at Blue Latitudes in Dover (owned by my good friend Ingo-good food- go check it out if you're in the neighborhood). Check out T5M's blog for photos and more of the story.
One of my "tasks" was to put together a video to be shown at the party. Making these videos seems to have become my "mark" for special events. Wendy and Erin came to me with the video idea a few months ago and of course I waited until 2 days before the event to start it. Needless to say I worked on it right up to the party. I finished it just in time. Techie moment: I was able to download this video to my iPhone, plug it into a projector and beam it onto a projection screen-sweet.
WOW! The Celtics are in the NBA Finals and they are playing the Lakers . WOW all I can say is WOW. I am at a loss for words.
The upcoming Celtics-Lakers series is already bringing back a lot of memories. I only wish I could find my 1984 'BEAT LA" T-Shirt. I have a funny feeling we are going to see a lot of vintage video of those classic 80's duels over the next few weeks.
Magic, Bird, Short Shorts, Jack Nicholson (I've hated him since) and the OLD GAHDEN.
Now it's Garnett, Koby, Over Sized Shorts, Jack Nicholson (looking forward to re-hating him) and the NEW GAHDEN.
We have until Thursday to take in the nostalgia before the games begin. Take it all in! In the mean time take a look at this video. I've watched it about 100 times since last night.

Will is five years old today!! FIVE! Where did the time go? It seems like only yesterday he was Beckett's age. It's funny because he doesn't really understand what a birthday is - he associates it with a party. So this morning I had to tell him (yet again) that his party is on Saturday, but today we celebrate the actual day he was born. Even when I told him that Pepe's birthday was yesterday, he asked me, "Where is he having his party?"
Happy Birthday Will!! We love you very much!
I am a fringe American Idol watcher. I like to watch when certain people sing but I really don't watch the whole series. Wendy is much more into than I am. One thing is certain neither of us watch the weekly results show. A lot of pomp and circumstance for a show that could last 30 seconds.
Last night of course was the BIG finale. After the Sox game I turned to my trusty Tivo and fast forwarded through 1 hour and 55 minutes of minutia to see the exciting and over drawn out out Ryan Seacrest announcement. Watch this video I took till the end.
From the moment I woke up yesterday I knew that at 3:30 I would be with my mom watching the Celtics game in my living room. Sure the lawn needed to be fertilized and the garden needed to be planted but if I got an early jump on the "to-dos I would be done before the biggest Celtics game in 22 years. GAME 7! (hopefully there will be even bigger games in the next few weeks).
Crammed into all of the yard work was a quick drop off of Joelle to the Seacoast Rep for her play (Treasure Island)followed by a pick up at 2:15. No sweat 20 minutes round trip and plenty of time to be back for the game.
So around 1:50 I made my way over to the Rep to pick up Joelle. As I waited in the lobby for my little star I saw one of Joelle's friends mom. I went over to talk to her and she told me that she brought along 6 of Joelle's best friends. It was a very nice gesture. The girls were all "dolled" up in skirts and dresses while toting purses and wearing make-up. They were ready for Broadway. We all were waiting for Joelle to come out of her dressing room when suddenly she appears and 6 little girls mob her like she was a rock star. I wish I could have captured it on film because it was her "moment". She was so happy it almost brought a tear to my eye.
Just as we are ready to make our move to the door the mom who brought the girls (super nice woman-Jen) offered to take all of the girls for nachos at Poco's on the decks in Portsmouth. Joelle was super excited and I wasn't about to ruin it by saying no. But then the curveball. Suddenly Jen realized she didn't have the room in her car to bring Joelle home....my only choice was to stay or bring Joelle home (which really wasn't a choice).
Within moments I went from having my whole day revolve around a 3:30 Celtics game to sitting on the decks in Portsmouth with 6 giddy pre-teens discussing the choreography of High School Musical 1 vs. 2...all with no TV in site...the HORROR! I look at my watch and it tells me it is 2:50, the food order wasn't even in. If I was lucky I would make it home in time for the 3rd quarter. I resigned myself to this fact and joined the fun. "So Girls who's cuter Troy or Ryan"?
Suddenly a life line..one of the girls moms calls Jen and says she's in Portsmouth. She would offer to comedown and pick her daughter up which in turn opened a seat in Jen's car. Jen in turn offered to take Joelle home and I was free to go. I hope I didn't offend her when I jumped out of my seat , kissed Joelle goodbye and run/hopped out of there....in a flash I was on my way home. I made it just in time for tip off. And WHAT A GAME!!!
Jen, if you read this... your gesture of bringing the girls to see Joelle and taking them out after the play was very special. Thank you very much! you made her day and more.....
Beckett is three months old today! It's amazing how fast time flies by - in a blink he'll be one. Part of me wants it to go by fast (because, let's face it, babies are tough), but another part of me wants to cherish all this "baby-ness" because it's our last one (and b/c it goes by so fast). He's very alert now - smiling all the time, "talking" and pretty much sleeping through the night (one quick night feeding). In four weeks we'll start him on rice cereal!
*5/13 - He weighs 12 lbs., 4oz.!
